Several thoughts after attending Navy game
Combined thoughts from observing that game and everything else:
- Haynes has some explosion. Granted this is from watching warmups (holy cow was that a long session) but he can throw down and has ability to make short jumpers.
- David NG was good from 3 in warmups. Sean P. showed explosion like in that HokieSports clip
- The above and recruitment of Bam makes me wonder if Young is prioritizing athleticism in his gettable recruits. Maybe no more than other teams as I am not studying any other team. Perhaps Young is excited to pull from a higher level pool of athletes and thinks he can develop athletic recruits.
- I like the layered depth going on. Start very experienced players. 2nd string not completely green by and large. 3rd string essentially redshirting but has potential. Sprinkle in portal (Storm) and high level recruits (Rice). Player development and retention key. Got to get people willing to sit and not all will as we have seen. Risk of top 100 recruits. Bam and Cone leaving is offset by Wofford connections for now.
- I have high hopes for Alleyne and was a little bummed for him. Turnovers and off shooting performance. He’ll bounce back.
- Haynes is a high energy and positive teammate. Good for chemistry.
- Navy was trying to disrupt those rubs out top for sure.
- watched the tv broadcast and 2 of the 3 picked Navy. Interesting.
- was expecting a larger crowd
- there is a pretty gulf between first and second string. Assume that is the case for most teams. They will be huge contributors as Juniors/Seniors.
- Hunter was backup PG in 2nd half
- Young was subbing a lot at the 5 in 2nd half due to Devers. He liked Mutts on him more than John it seemed.
