recall Fuente ever blaming a loss solely on COVID. If you don't think having to practice offensive players on defense b/c you don't have enough defenders available at a certain position is a reason for a poor defensive performance then I don't know what to tell you. On of my pet peeves here is that people label anything they don't like or disagree with as an "excuse" even when it's a reason. If you lose a game in which none of your DBs are available then their lack of availability is most likely a reason for the loss. Pointing that out as a reason a team struggled doesn't make it an excuse. It's simply a fact. Just like playing against BC w/o our top two QBs and top two receiving threats is a reason for the offense to struggle. If I was a neutral observer and I saw that I would think... "Yeah it makes sense their passing offense wouldn't be doing well". Losses are usually due to a combination of things and I rarely, if ever, have seen any coach pin a loss solely on one play, one player, one call, one reason.

Glad you agree that COVID did not impact every team equally and that it is possible that our team was impacted more than others. I personally don't think anyone should have been playing college football last year (NFL is different story as they're paid professionals) but it wasn't up to me. It most likely wasn't up to Fuente either. But I do like to imagine the uproar if he had single handedly canceled the season due to his concerns for the players. I'm sure posters like you would have taken that very calmly and rationally. And again my post wasn't really about my opinion. It's a factual statement to say that COVID did not impact every college team the same.

What Fuente makes has zero to do with whether COVID impacted us more than other teams. Same with pointing out that people have died or had other non-football related consequences. No one was arguing they didn't. If we're being honest I find your post way more embarrassing to "my college" than anything Fuente said regarding COVID. You're claiming I'm "defending his behavior"... I would counter that you're going out of your way to be offended and outraged while also exaggerating Fuente's comments regarding COVID. If you don't think other coaches didn't comment on how COVID impacted their teams during the season then it's simply because you weren't paying attention or don't follow other teams. But again I'm not sure I saw any coach (Fuente or otherwise) blaming COVID specifically for a loss.
