.... that 81 crap. I usually did the 603/Ironto thing.

But if pressed you could drive west into Giles Co, turn right on VA 42 at Newport, and strike NEward toward New Castle. From there 311 could slide down toward Catawba/Roanoke -- or go straight and you eventually end up in Clifton Forge. It's a ways around, but at least it's scenic -- and moving.
