People often say that JF was a good choice to help rebuild a program. But I think that was the wrong perspective and why the choice was doomed from the start.

At the time VT was down but we didn’t need a top to bottom rebuilding. We still had several future NFL starters on the roster and really just needed an adjustment. Fix the O, sustain the D, and try to enhance recruiting. We made our own problem by going with a rebuild and getting someone who had never personally experienced top level sustained success.

But now we actually do need a full rebuild. The program that just needed a tune up six years ago, now needs to be completely stripped and replaced. All because we misjudged what was actually needed.
