Been in France for the past week. Masks everywhere, Covid passport

on your phone required for restaurants and all public venues. Waiters loudly fuss at you if you enter without a mask. It's no big deal. In fact, it's a great system. Very efficient. Outside, few masks. Inside, always. In Paris there are free testing tents (tailgate size) everywhere on the sidewalks, even on the Champs Élysées.

I was in the U.K. for the 2 weeks prior. Lots of covid rules on the books but maybe half the people observe them, particularly masking, and there isn't any kind of enforcement. Testing was running 75-100 pounds a pop, and only at certain pharmacies. There were covid storms breaking out in Scotland, London and Cornwall when I left.

UK has twice the population of France, but it's daily infections and fatalities are ~7 times greater than France's. Compared to the US, America has 5 times the population as France, but 12 times the current daily infections and nearly 50 times the daily covid fatalities. The French have this figured out in a way that could never happen in the US.
