RSNs are a poor choice for broadcasts.
You have one service (ESPN app) that anyone who gets ESPN can access... which basically means everyone in the nation, regardless of whether they use cable, satellite, or streaming services. It's simple- you have ESPN, you have access to the game.
Then you have the RSNs, which are tied up in a complex web of provider-specific deals, and which mostly only serve the ever-shrinking audience of people who still rely on cable TV.
So of course, the ACC goes with the more complicated solution that reaches less people. Why am I not surprised?
