Pretty sure all the Speed Queen advice was for a washer, not a dryer

Dryer technology hasn't really changed in fifty years. Only reason to get an expensive (or even a new) dryer is if you just want the aesthetics of a matched set.

Last time I needed a dryer, I got one used for $50 off Craigslist. It's probably outlasted most new appliances by now.
