She was the daughter of an English professor. They lived in faculty housing on campus, and I used to hang out there that most of 1976. The place was glowing from the recent publication of the bestselling book, “A Pilgrim at Tinker Creek”. My girlfriend was one of the minor characters in it. I remember sledding in the president’s backyard (above the tennis courts), playing pool in the student center, and making out in the graveyard.

These days, I still head over to Hollins from time to time…to recycle my plastics, mixed paper, and cans. Plus, they’re the only place around I’ve found that recycles glass.
