Did we mishit the KO when Syracuse had the long return?

If that was planned then I don't understand. We blasted KOs through the EZ repeatedly. For a reason I assume. What causes a change in that philosophy? Same thing going for two in the 3rd quarter against ND. We place a value on points earlier by kicking a FG when we had 4th and goal at the one (no problem with that thought), but go for two points from the 7 yard line?
