coaches. i remember the posts here about "we need to get used to the idea of coaches coming and going every 5-7 years". Unthinkable to change coaches every few years after a coach with almost 3 decades in Blacksburg, yet here we are.
I will go on record and say i like CJF. He stepped into a terribly difficult situation and handled it professionally, respectfully, and he seemed genuine about it. He seems earnest, honest and principled. That said, here we are, struggling to get in the end zone with multiple downs from the 2. Week to week. With predicable plays which dont play to player strengths.
I see his greatest failure, aside from some catastrophic losses to local smaller programs, being lack of success in recruiting and retention. His loyalty to Corn is commendable but damaging to the program and its future at this point.
After watching us dump the ND game up close and personal, and that absolute lowest point (maybe since Temple 98) against Pitt last week, i took a few days before posting this just to be sure it wasn't post game emotion.
Even if CJF eeks out a win against 3-4/0-3 Syracuse and salvages a few wins, i don't see things getting better next year. We have to recognize that when the termite damage has gone too far, although the Sandman still Enters every game, the house needs a foundation-level rebuild before it comes down for good.
