Beamer could've left on a high note, the cupboard wouldn't be entirely bare yet, and, most importantly, with Weaver making the hire, he probably wouldn't have seriously considered an outsider. Once Babcock became AD, the die was cast then; he wasn't going to make an internal promotion type of hire to head football coach.
