certainly not going through it blow-by-blow but you can see the problem of persons not being able to put themselves in the 1492 worldview eg, the comment where "any educated person would know" is kind of funny because there probably weren't that many "educated people" of the kind he's implying, maybe only a couple hundred when 99% of the population is engaged in farming, religion, fighting, etc. That person is imputing the general knowledge we have now on everyone then. I've read where mariners knew that, there were fishing camps in North American for fishing cod and they could see ships disappearing over the horizon but again knowledge didn't spread like it does today, might have even been a trade secret.

Holidays should celebrate general principles eg, Memorial Day, Labor Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving (Harvest feasts are celebrated world-wide) even Christmas can be construed as part of the winter solstice celebrated world-wide etc.

Not too fond of people holidays which always have the risk of increasing ad infinitum, CC could be construed as one, but think the deeper intent was our national narrative ideal to keep exploring and that legitimizes it. Not that I really pay attention to it.
