Stop hating on the play calling. That isn't the big problem
Granted, the play calling hasn't been great, but a far greater problem is Fuente's inability to develop QBs. He was supposed to be this QB whisper when we hired him, when in reality, he stumbled upon a good QB at Memphis. Meanwhile, the most important position on the field, continues to struggle here, year after year after year.
Our current QB is a gutty, gritty, hard-nosed player who can run. The type of kid you want to build a team around, but the fact is that he just isn't a good QB. He wouldn't start for any other team in the ACC. Like Logan Thomas, he struggles with anything requiring touch, ie bubble screens, fades, & etc., which then really limits offensive play calling and overall strategy. Missed a wide open Tre Turner on what should have gone for six if he didn't lead him almost out of bounds. Turner had to adjust to a poorly thrown ball while going full speed, and thus having to angle his route caused the ball to be long. Was a great play call and a great route run.
Meanwhile, Hooker is blowing up at UT. Sure, he is isn't the consummate QB either, but seems to be doing a lot better in that system.
Until we send Fuente on his way and get a real coach in here who can develop QBs and a consistent offensive system, we are staring down the barrel of 7-5 / 6-6 seasons.
