The “playin keep away” aspect of offense, which Beamer perfected, and Fuente has adopted, and has been going on for forever in da burg, means nothing when there are no more offensive possessions to deny (of ND) because of halftime approaching. Fuente also appears to play aggressive at the very beginnings of gamesto get a lead and Attempt to sit on it. This keeps scores close for a while and the crowd in it for a while, and the win sometimes (UNC).

Fuente has found, like Beamer, you can win just enough games to keep your job playing this way, by using your own offense to attempt to deny the other team offensive possessions.

And when you make 4+ million dollars a year, and find that this manner of play allows you to win just enough and keep your job and that salary, why not play that way?

I’d never thought a new “offensive-minded” coach, in Fuente, would yield to this style in just a few years, but, he’ll, it’s a way to win just enough and keep your job, at a hi salary, when you can’t recruit all that well.
