building permits, though, I THINK I heard the other day that NC is considering legislation to privatize ALL building permits/inspections. Certainly NC's not alone in an enormous glut/backlog of potential projects. Since residential inspections here have always been conducted by private individuals, now the thinking may be that privatizing ALL permits/inspections (a 2-step process, of course) will speed up projects getting underway and getting completed. A huge boost for more bidness in NC. Of course, some will say privatizing it leads to corruption, but the entire genre has always been susceptible to that.
