Some thoughts on Richmond and moving forward
For what its worth we are 3-1 beats being 2-2 or worse...
The Richmond game was distressing though. For me it came down to the 3rd and 9 play on our last drive before the end of the first half. we lined up with 3 wide on the right and 1 wide on the left and effectively ran 4 go routes. the inside slot on the right may have ran a post (but it equates to effectively the same thing). we throw a 50/50 ball to a well covered receiver for an incompletion. Where are the crossing patterns? Patterns designed to get natural picks of defensive backs?
The offensive scheme is not putting our players in a good position to make plays or have success right now. They have two weeks to make some changes to play calling route running and route scheming. ND has a good defense, so I am not expecting an offensive explosion, but the offensive staff has to look critically at what they have been doing and make some changes.
I support our team, players, coaches, all. and I want them to be as good as they can.
go Hokies.
