This board: "Well, we can still win the coastal." Or "it was the ___" fault

There is a constant and unfortunately ingrained ability to lower the bar relative to Virginia Tech football.

It is possible to have a poor plan in place...and win and lose! And regardless if you win, the coaching/execution/mood, whatever, can still be poor.

This team is who we thought they were. Just because we beat UNC (doubtful this would happen again if we played), that game had lots of similar features to our other games this season.

"wElL wHy DoEs ViCe gEt A pAsS?"
Because he's our best coach. Easily.
Was the OL perfect? Heck no, not even close. But, if it's the 4th quarter, and they're blitzing, maybe have a counter-scheme in place to adjust? Or a simple play action?

"jHaM dId NoT hAvE tHeM rEaDy!"
True. Their first play was a great scheme and poor tackling/were chasing, not filling the gap. BUT, I will argue they improved over the game and made adjustments. Waller had a INT to almost win the game. Does that play to win also not fall on the D? Love him as a player (JHam), not sold as a coach. We'll see.

"jAmEs MiTcHeLl WoUlDvE sCoREd!"
And his knee exploded because of the play calling.

The truth is...and the frustration from everyone IMO resides in the fact that this game was VERY winnable, and we were unable to score anything on three trips within the 10 yard line... (and in this case, props to the WVU D).

"eXeCuTiOn, tHeY tRiEd"
Hey, maybe I'm wrong.
Maybe they were the perfect play calls.
And the players did not execute.
But I don't believe it.
Are there a few keeps BB could have had and walked in? Sure. Seems like he either did not want to ever keep it in those situations or made a bad read. That said, coaches and play calling are there to set the players up for success.

IMO, poor play calling prevented success in the red zone.

We have plenty of data on our coaching staff (sans JHam & RB Lechtenberg & Price)... And it's not great. Meaning, they are who we think they are. Mediocre.

Cornelson is over his head and is a horrible QB coach. (Love the Jerry Kill stories).

Fuente seems to like his head in the sand and is handcuffed to Corn.

Shibest is a guru yet our #1 FG kicker is a 40% career guy who's missed two kicks around 30 in three games (and his increased salary ran off Torrian Gray).

I'm not anti-Fuente.
I'm anti doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Nothing will change.
We'll win some. We'll lose some.
We'll be mediocre.
WR recruiting will worsen.
QB recruiting will worsen.
RBs... Who knows. Thank God for Khalil last year.
Fuente will continue at VT for some reason, as will his Memphis crew because it's not liking people are chomping to hire them away...

And we'll continue on this path...
It sucks.

Fuente is 18-19 vs. FBS team over the last 4 seasons (2018-2021)
