Depends a bit on what you mean by "older."


Owners manual on my 1983 Honda called for a 5K oil change cycle.

Maybe if you went back to the 50's, 60's, or 70's a 3K oil change was necessary. But those cars tended to leak/burn oil anyway, so you probably got a full oil change every couple of months anyway simply by adding half a quart every few weeks.
