If it's locked, he either woulda had to do it with the keyfob on him, or via the door-handle lock. Does he remember? What's his standard?
If via the button on the door (which is how mine works), then the fob was on him, and he either dropped it or misplaced it somewhere on the homestead.
How about any purchases that were made last night? Were there any doggie bags that he might have put the fob into? Was it cool enough for a jacket and thus a jacket pocket? Did he do laundry last night and the fob is in a pair of pants? Heck, maybe he tossed it on a dresser or table with his wallet and phone, and the fob dropped behind and/or underneath it. Is there a standard place at your mom's he normally puts his stuff when he's staying there?
Last question -- any grandkids that don't particularly want to leave, or maybe a mischievous cat?
