...it sounds like a bunch of soft kids who got their fragile feelings hurt. But after reading the article, I'm torn. I played high school baseball for a coach who behaved somewhat similarly at times, although I never saw him put his hands on a player. In my opinion, it doesn't sound like the Radford coach was being abusive if what is alleged is true. But, at the same time, if he's created an environment that no one wants to be a part of, then the administration probably does need to know about that. I never considered my coach verbally abusive; I just thought he was a hothead and it made playing baseball unenjoyable, so I quit after my junior year. I never once thought about complaining to the school, and I never felt that my mental health was affected in any way.

But, I do understand why players would want to leave the program if presented the opportunity. Most of them won't play professional baseball, so this is their last opportunity to play a game that they love. If playing for this coach is miserable, I don't fault them for leaving. I'm just not sure this is an "abuse" issue. I don't think the coach has done anything that should warrant his firing, but over the long haul, his performance may suffer if team morale continues to be this bad, and he may struggle to recruit once word gets around. So, in the end, his demeanor may be his undoing after all.
