Between BCotG and Sand Dunes....take 149 through Lake City and Creede


In September, the leaves should be phenomenal. Lots of hiking, offroading, etc along that corridor. Highly recommend to stop at Freemon's General Store for lunch.

If you want something way off the beaten path, look up the Wheeler Geologic Area to the east of Creede. You can hike to it or depending on the vehicle, drive.

Zapata Falls is a quick hike near the Dunes that's usually worth it. There are also commercial and non-commercial hot springs all up the eastern side of the San Luis Valley as the Sangre's rise up...look on Google Maps for some to hike to.
