Hokies Softball to play at Alabama in February

Alabama softball announced today that they will host Virginia Tech and Middle Tennessee in the 2022 Bama Bash Softball event in Tuscaloosa February 18th-20th.

Based on past history of the event, the Hokies will play both Middle Tennessee and Alabama twice, but that hasn’t been confirmed at this point.

That event potentially sets up a showdown of the Hokies Keely Rochard against the Crimson Tide’s Montana Fouts, the 2021 NFCA Pitcher of the year. Fouts had an amazing College World Series, two-hitting Arizona in Game 1 before throwing a perfect game against defending National Champion UCLA in Game 2. She proved to be human in an elimination game against Florida State, giving up 7 runs in 2.2 innings, but still finished the year with a 27-4 record, a 1.61 ERA, and 349 strikeouts in 213.1 innings.

Alabama finished the 2021 season with a 52-9 record and a #3 ranking in both the ESPN and USA Today/Coaches Poll. They were #2 in RPI.

Middle Tennessee finished 2021 with a 26-22 record and a 102 ranking in RPI.

Today's announcement follows a announcement a couple of weeks ago that the Hokies will play in the Northern Lights/Southern Nights tournament in Leesburg, FL in early February. The Press release from that event stated that "Top-25 teams will play two to three games against one another and two to three games against other top RPI programs."

Coach D'Amour is certainly going after RPI games. Should help big time come selection Sunday.
