In fact, some teams/venues have been 100% mobile for several years. On its own, I think it is actually more secure/less susceptible to scams.

When someone sells on secondary market sites like stubhub, it's based on the barcode, regardless of whether they have a physical ticket or a mobile ticket. Those sites are integrated with the venue, which is how StubHub knows the section/row/seat just by you entering a barcode. When the ticket sells, they reissue a new barcode for that seat and void the original. The seller doesn't know the new barcode. If there was a physical ticket, the potential scam would be someone can sell a ticket via StubHub and then also sell someone the physical ticket (which is a real ticket, but it is no longer any good which you would have no way to know just by looking at it). This possible scam gets eliminated when there's no physical ticket.

If you're selling to someone else personally, you'll transfer your mobile ticket via the Hokiesports app. This also ensures the ticket you get transferred to you is authentic.

I've bought A LOT of tickets on the secondary market in the last ~5 years for many different teams and venues. Probably around 100 or so. I've never once had an issue. Not to say it never ever happens, but I think most of those cases actually involve situations where there are physical tickets involved in some way. Also, any of the reputable sites have buyer protection where they will refund or replace your tickets if there is an issue.

The one thing that changes with mobile is you're not gonna be able to pickup a last minute ticket outside the stadium from someone who is holding one up in the air on Beamer Way. You'll need to make a purchase or transfer via one of the apps/mobile sites while you still have cell service (as we know cell service around the stadium at gametime can be pretty spotty).
