That was the reason for the GOR in the first place.


When Maryland was poached from the ACC, the Big 10 was in unofficial talks with GT, UVA and possibly others. Those rumors were leading to Clemson and FSU talking to the Big 12. ESPN was not going to invest in an ACC Network without more stability in the ACC.

Without the GOR, the ACC would likely have fractured 10 years ago. We were in a weaker position than the Big 12 at the time. If we had signed a short term GOR, the ACC would be actively getting split up. With the extended GOR, ESPN was willing to do the ACC Network and each of the schools was assured that another school was not going to leave like Maryland.
