Who should be left out of this round of realignment? Personally, I'd rather see opportunities expanded to worthy G6 schools, like Cincy or Houston, but that doesn't appear to be the motivation for what's about to happen. For masochistic fun, I ranked the FBS schools based on 4 criteria: Football (all time W-L), Men's basketball (all time W-L), Academic ranking (75th percentile SAT admittance), National championships (double weighted). Based on this ranking the following P5 schools miss the top 64:

(Best to worst):
Wake Forest ACC
Iowa State B12
Baylor B12
Rutgers B10
Oregon State P12
Ole Miss SEC
Mississippi St. SEC
Washington St. P12

Last 8 in (worst to best):
South Carolina SEC
Kansas St. B12
Missouri SEC
Louisville ACC
Pitt ACC
Auburn SEC
Kansas B12
VT ACC

Top 8 (best to worst):
Stanford P12
UCLA P12
USC P12
Michigan B10
Texas B12, for now
Ohio St. B10
UNC ACC
Notre Dame ACC-ish

Our football program is drowning in the post-Beamer era. Basketball has made great strides with some outstanding recent coaching hires. Academics are solid. National championships elude us and continue to be our great shame. We're worthy of inclusion among the elite somewhere, but have little reason to be overconfident.
