Well, good luck next spring when you file taxes

This is basically a zero interest loan the government is giving people without really telling them it's a loan, not a gift, and making people actually opt out instead of having to opt in. They haven't advised anyone to consult with their tax professional and now it's too late. This is going to backfire on a lot of people.

Not a political statement, but the last administration did something similar during 2020 due to COVID, but just to all government employees and it screwed up their taxes too.
