The Champagne of Beers

46 years ago this summer, as a rising high school junior, I started 'adult' beer drinking. My employer that summer would get a 6 pack of pony bottles and we (two high schoolers and him) would drink a couple each after work (after we locked the doors and the work day was over ).

It wasn't like we were sneaking beers or getting someone to buy for us. We were workers having a beer after work with the boss. At least in our eyes, we were grown-ass working men.

Now, I like a lot of the craft beers and local brewery products (though still partial to Pilsners and Pale Ale), but I still get nostalgic and find it hard for any beer to match my 'long term memory taste' of this domestic, cheap and possibly "best pilsner" I've ever tasted. The Champagne of bottle beer!

Side note, weekends were different. 1 or 2 ponies wasn't the rule. It often started with Richie, a belated fellow Hokie, neighbor and friend, who left us way too early, would say "Let's get some Millers and play some putt putt golf". Game on.
