More encouragement on the recruiting trail

Last week I was cautiously optimistic about the direction of our team generally, and recruiting specifically. Today I'm even more optimistic. In the past week we picked up commitments from TE/WR Daequan Wright and DL Kyree Moyston. Moyston gives us two defensive linemen from Virginia with the size we are looking for (6'4 - 6'5), and we have an excellent shot at a third on Sunday with Rashaud Pernell. We're also in pretty good shape with 2 or 3 other defensive linemen. J.C. Price is really doing a great job so far.

This is not a typical recruiting year, because there is not as much available data on the players. So when we snagged Malcolm Jones and Wright out of Georgia, there was some grumbling on the board about them not being rated. But after 247 got a look at their film and other background, they raised both of them to high 3 star players. Clearly the staff is hustling on the recruiting trail and getting results. I like this recruiting staff more than ones we've had in previous years.

July will be a huge month for us. We appear to be in very good shape with Pernell, who has an excellent offer list but has us at the top. We've also got a number of highly regarded players (Gunnar Givens , CB Cam Miller, and others) who have us in their top 2 or 3. My fingers are crossed but we are off to a great start and being able to get kids on campus helps a ton.

As we head into the 4th of July weekend I'm feeling better and better about this class. Regardless of how you feel about how we're doing, I hope you have a happy 4th. And let's hope Rashaud Pernell gives us one more thing to celebrate.
