I'd compare it to the the idiot kids that occasionally throw a rock at a car passing under an overpass. Or the guys that get too carried away playing drinking games and someone dies. Just because you don't mean any harm or no one was hurt by what you did, it doesn't mean you don't deserve consequences. I can't imagine any occupation where it's acceptable to have a full water bottle chucked at you. Let me ask you this. Would you feel like it was okay if a WVU or a Miami fan threw a full water bottle and barely missed our star player? Let's say it was Tyrod Taylor during the time when we were really good. I think we'd all be ticked and want the guy to do some jail time.
