Some questions for those of you with IOT or smart home devices

I am buying a house in Gainesville and transitioning to a new position that will have me traveling a lot. My family will be based at this house. They want to do the smart home thing with the thermostat, cameras, doorbell, and probably some other stuff along the way.

One thing...they are all completely non-google. They are iPhones and non-gmail addresses (majority yahoo ones they have had for a long long time). They don’t really use things like Alexa or google home mini or chromecast...heck...i can’t even get them to get into streaming services as they are used to cable and not switching around between services. I expect to be traveling around 75-80 percent of the time and bring my own chromecast with me.

I’d like to get them a mesh network and replace our old apple router (bought in 2005! And going strong).

What systems are you using and what should I be looking at. Remote viewing of cameras via phones is a must. They like to check on the pets during the day. They would like to see who came to the door. They would like to be able to set routines for the thermostat. For cameras something we could rewind for outdoor and doorbell cameras would be nice.

We use ooma for phone service and will have a choice between att and cox for home internet. I currently have att where we have a house now. I don’t really want their services.

I went to youtube and did some searches but everyone seems to have been compensated for their reviews.

What works for real world...what will be expandable going forward...what questions and features should I look at? Yes, I am aware of the privacy concerns. I work in the IT industry but on much different things. I also am more of a manager now than a technician or day to day admin.

Thanks.
