A crazy incident last night during the ASU - BYU game
I was coming back to the stadium after writing my recap for TSL and ran into about 15 of our players in the parking lot walking back to their hotel.
They had been in the stadium watching the BYU-ASU game when someone contacted Coach Lewis and asked him to have them leave because they weren’t allowed to be there. Ironically, several of them had the game up on their phones and we’re watching it on there, so if it was a competitive advantage deal, that made no sense. When teams are waiting to play, they always stand around watching the games in progress so it shouldn't have been a big deal.
They had no ill intent. Their hotel is just a few blocks away from the stadium and they were probably bored and wanted to watch the game. And they wouldn’t have stayed long as they mentioned that had to be in bed by 9:00. Coach Pete had actually said something similar during one of the press conferences.
We visited for a few minutes and talked about yesterday‘s game and today’s game and laughed about what a silly deal it was to ask them to leave.
I will repeat what I have said many many times. These are the most outstanding and polite young ladies I have ever met. They are truly a joy to be around. Their parents did a great job raising them and I am proud to have them represent Virginia Tech.
They didn’t know who was behind the decision, but the games are being played at the ASU stadium so 2 + 2 = 4 in my book.
I briefly saw Coach Lewis in the stadium and he confirmed their version of events and just shook his head.
