Well the All Conference voting was an interesting process
The ballots for the All-Tournament Team had to be submitted by the top of the 5th inning and at that point, the game was scoreless.
The defined process was to submit two MVP candidates - one player if Clemson won and one player if Duke won. At that point, it looked like the Duke MVP might be Shelby Walters, as she had pitched a scoreless game at that point (her first action of the championship).
But then Duke scored and Peyton St George entered the game. She had carried Duke through the first two games, giving up just a couple of runs in the two games. So now, she comes in the Championship game and closes it out, including striking out Cagle and Guimbarda back-to-back. No doubt she deserved the MVP award.
So there was a bit of a scramble to make the proper adjustments to the voting. In the end, we got it right, which is what matters.
Here's the ACC All Tournament Team and it is close to my ballot:
Peyton St. George, Duke (MVP)
Shelby Walters, Duke
Cammy Pereira, Clemson
Valerie Cagle, Clemson
Kristina Foreman, Duke
Gisele Tapia, Duke
Sydney Sherrill, Florida State
Blake Neleman, Georgia Tech
Celene Funke, Louisville
Taty Forbes, North Carolina State
Keely Rochard, Virginia Tech
It was a really cool process and I'm glad I stayed for the Championship game.
