Could VT conceivably be a host but as a #2 seed with Duke as #1?

Probably never been done before but obviously you have some pretty unique circumstances this year. This way Duke gets their #1 seed and plays close to home, but obviously would theoretically be at a little bit of a disadvantage if VT (as #2 seed) beats the #3 seed.

We wouldn’t be matching up w Duke in the first game, which is what the NCAA always tries to avoid. And, this way, as Chip pointed out, the VT and Tech Softball Park staff would be available to do their duties as hosts since they wouldn’t be traveling w the team to another location.

Duke could look at it as, hey this is about as close to home as we’re gonna get and still be a #1 seed. They can thank their administration for not being able to host. And it’s not like they’d be playing in front of 70-80k fans. Not trying to sell VT’s softball fans short in any way, I am sure we would max out the allowed capacity and support the ladies really well, it’s just the magnitude compared to football or basketball.
