A lot has to do with elevation

Grand Canyon is an excellent example. Can be almost freezing at the rim and a beautiful 85 degrees at the river. That's how much air pressure can play in temperature. I don't believe the asphalt jungle adds much more than a degree or so, elevation has much more influence. You can ride up South Mountain and it's several degrees cooler typically.
