even a chain store. Unless you REALLY understand diamond quality, you risk buying crap..NOW, if you don't mind, or your wife really won't know the difference, then it doesn't matter at all. Also, I'm not saying you WILL get screwed at Costco or a big chain jeweler, just that you won't know what you don't know!

My wife's dad, Hokie Al, sold estate jewelry, and designed pieces for speciual clients.. SHE grew up knowing diamond (and other stone) quality. Believe me, there IS a noticeable difference. When she is in a darkened room, any shred of light is magnified by her diamonds, almost like it is drawn to the stone. I would have had NO idea of that "cut, clarity and color" thing..nor would I have cared,

Hokie Al designed her engagement ring after giving us literally a couple hundred of loose diamonds to pick from...Freaked me out sitting on my future wife's apartment floor with 50-75 diamonds between 1.5 and-2.5 carets lying on the floor.. I kept looking out of the front window. I DID learn a hell of a lot about quality stones. My wife doesn't expect jewelry, but IF I decide to get her something, I know to go for the quality..
