Final 6 game stretch is here now....with the cancellation of

the Liberty game, the final 6 league games will determine our post season setup. It is too bad the Liberty game won't take place, but kudos to a very efficient management of the season from a Covid standpoint, and mother nature allowing games to take place. The expected work of Gerard was really good today. As sharp, crisp, and fresh as he has looked. Toledo has a nice offensive team, and he was dominant. That allowed Connolly to look equally as sharp in his most comfortable role, out of the pen. Heard regaining form the last two weeks. Really, our staff had a really good weekend pitching wise. The key for us, as was briefly mentioned earlier today, is getting the leadoff production going again on the offensive side. That really sets the table and allows for Cross, Rumfield, Thomas, Madden, and Biddison to do their thing as a core middle group. That is a nice blend. Just don't have that natural leadoff guy on our roster right now. The other two that have been there in that spot have some power also, but really fit in well in a different spot. Kids are trying hard and want to succeed, just not easy to take on a role that is not naturally suited for someone. But all in all, we should be in good shape for the final stretch run......

Read a comment on here last week (re: we were playing/coaching like we were predicted) and decided not to respond to it. Opinions are always welcome here and should be respected. And yes, I have some personal relationships with the program but try not to sugar coat things to much as that doesn't accomplish much either. But we should all feel really good and appreciate our growth this year. Yes, we were predicted 12th in the league........yet we were one of the first 6 teams to clinch the ACC tournament this year. Szefc probably won't win "coach of the year" as I would imagine the ND coach will get that, but Szefc will be up there along with the Pitt coach. Baseball ebbs and flows more than just about any other sport. And who knows how the final 6 games will play out. Duke is capable, and ND is playing well (although maybe they will cool off after this weekend). With our pitching staff healing up and guys going back to natural roles, I like our chances of winning two more league games (at a minimum). That puts us at a minimum of 18-18 in the league and a 2 seed in a regional.....3-3 puts us in the plus column. That is not 12th in the league production by anybody's evaluation. We have taken an enormous step this year......the facility shows well now (and more is coming), and we are starting to get different level kids that are more ACC ready at a younger stage. That is the mark of a prolonged culture of success and not the culture of a good year once every four or five years. We are close to having the culture of a consistent ACC program now......
