What's great about VA's CCs is they line up their classes to match...


...the universities' first and second year classes.

That included many disciplines, including engineering. When I was taking classes at TCC after the turn of the century, they were initially offering AS degrees in Civil, Mechanical, etc. engineering, but have shifted to just offering a "generic" engineering AS degree intended to prepare the students to transfer to Virginia state schools. I was pleasantly surprised to see this, since when I was a freshman/sophomore back in the dark ages, community colleges didn't offer any engineering classes. You could take some of the classes like 5-hour calculus, but you could only take so many classes in the engineering pipeline. That has all changed now...
