You know, I was rather put off by Roberto Alagna ....

... in a performance of Cyrano de Bergerac that I remember well. Objectively he sang great -- but I hated it anyway. Had the same reaction to several other operas which featured the male lead wayyyy more than the female.

On the other hand, the best arias by ladies tend to burn their way into my brain. I can still hear Sieglinde from a very special Die Walkure performance in 2016. I mean every note. This Sieglinde was by an American girl, Meagan Miller. Her Act 1 rendering was so awesome that it stole the show from Nina Stemme, who was the international star we all came to see. I am now in love with Meagan Miller (the wife knows!).

Even excellent jobs by guys just don't seem memorable. It's gotta be just me, I guess.
