The last time I asked the same question, someone blamed the lack of

a weight class between 197 and 285 on a shortage of wrestlers due to the big guys wanting to play football. I have no idea if that is the case, but that's what someone said. It sure does seem logical to have a 220 lb weight class to bridge the gap.
