Changes at NCAAs
Willie had some interesting information on his podcast today on Rokfin regarding NCAAs. You might need a sub to listen to it but here's what I took from it:
- Athletes will travel to St. Louis, must go to the hotel, must wait for a time between 9 AM and 5 PM for a COVID test. They must return to their room after their first test and quarantine until the next day where they will receive another time between 9 and 5 for a second COVID test. They must have two negative tests before they can work out in the facilities. The NCAA is, obviously, taking testing extremely seriously. Traditionally, a majority of the teams will arrive on Tuesday, workout in the arena on Wednesday, competition starts Thursday. Teams will now have to leave much earlier than anticipated so their guys can get their two tests and go workout.
- Wrestlers will be tested every morning before weigh-ins.
- Split workout times. 125 to 157 will go first followed by 165 to heavyweight. So 57s can't workout with 65s.
- Split sessions. 125 to 157 will be the only weights allowed in the building starting at 10 AM on that Thursday. Clear the building. Starting at 2 PM it'll be 165 through heavy. They're hearing that once they get to the quarterfinals they will start putting everyone together.
- Weigh-ins are at two separate locations. Union Station (i don't know if it's the actual train station or a hotel near the station, that's just what they said) and the arena.
- There's no contact tracing when they're testing every day. If there's a positive test, they will re-test. They will not make a decision with a positive after one test.
