I’ve looked at the extra matches as more or less a replacement for opens, but fully expect the NCAA to reverse course on extra matches when travel and competitions won’t be limited by the coronavirus. I also think opens bring a little more to the table than the extra matches whether it be multiple school’s number one guys/top redshirts or just adjusting to a tournament style with more than 1-2 matches a day. The things I really hope that stick around are the tris and quads though that’s been beyond entertaining this season. The dream would also be that this leads to a more football style redshirt rule in wrestling which is a sport that it would better benefit freshmen or other redshirts being able to sparsely compete without losing their year in lineup altering injury situations.
