My experience with Hank Aaron at VT

As a sophomore at VT I lived in the basement of the Wesley Foundation. We rented out parts of the building to other groups and the Black Student Alliance had our fellowship all for a gathering with Hank one evening. It was my week to have that area for cleaning and after the gathering ended I went into sweep up. Only Hank and one of his companions were left in there. I thought it was a great opportunity to get his autograph. With broom in hand I went over and asked. His companion told me Hank would not be giving more and, in fact, Hank did not even acknowledge me. Needless to say it was very disappointing and disheartening. We were the only ones in the room so it shouldn’t have been about concerns for others holding him up. I had always been a fan but that really turned me off to him
