I have ZERO issues with Hamilton. I love him. I also….wait for it, have zero issues with Corney. I think he is a very good offensive coordinator. Contrary to many, I think we are absolutely fine at both coordinators positions. The problem I have is with the Head Coach because we have had 2 losing seasons out of the last 3 seasons. Our recruiting has plummeted, and I mean far, far below anything close to the past 28 or so years. I actually do NOT think Fu is a good x's and o's guy. I think he's average. The real issue is recruiting. We are in an absolute mess in this department.

The overall record and overall recruiting track is what it is. You simply can't just say a coach is a "good coach" when he's had 2 out of 3 losing seasons. There is just no way to say that. It's insanity. I do not believe there has a been a total coaching failure. I think there has been a failure at the HC position and it's directly evident in recruiting and overall record. I'm telling you this and this is my opinion, pure speculation, but you will change your mind by the end of next season. The recruiting has plummeted to the point that out of our 12 games next year, 8 of those 12 schools are actually going to be more talented when looking at their starting 22 versus our starting 22.

When you are out talented and you are a mediocre HC, you aren't going to overcome that with 8 win seasons. It's not going to happen. Recruiting is part of coaching. It's one of the equations that goes into whether we define a HC as poor, below average, average, above average, good, excellent, etc. He had a couple of good recruiting years based on the momentum of the change in the program/transition from Coach Beamer. It's all him right now and it's showed the past 24 months. It's showing now also. If you think 2020 and 2021 are low ranked classes by VT historical standards (and they are), 2022 is going to be out of the ballpark. He can not recruit. Doesn't have the drive, the passion, the enthusiasm, the emotion to successfully recruit at this level.
