I like Brooks running shoes, so I have a pair of Brooks "trail runners." I have several other "hiking shoes (Salomon, Vasque, Asolo)," but I really don't love any of them. Had a pair of "high top" Merrell Moab 2s, that had several issues, some design (too narrow a toe box resulted in big toe blisters on both feet) and some due to poor construction. I won't buy another pair again, but may consider a pair of low tops. Still worried about the narrow toe box, so probably not this purchase.
I have a couple pair of Keen sandals I love, thus Keens are on the list.
I have a pair of Salewas in the closet that I used to love. I had a foot injury, and those shoes never felt "right" afterwards." I may try to get those back into the lightweight "day hike" rotation...
Basically I'm looking for a replacement for my Asolo 520s, but a low top replacement. Comfort, great grip on the trails, & sturdy enough that I can wear them carrying a pack. I don't have anything in that category, thus my search...
