I was on leave from the USS Saipan, which was in drydock over in P-town

Woke up fairly late, turned on the TV, and could have sworn I was watching a TV show. Just stunned.

Well, I was supposed to rotate back to shore duty before deployment, but we deployed early.

We left the drydock as ASAP, headed up to a Naval weapon's station to onload ordnance, then back home to load as much USMC equipment and Marines that we could carry.

We then headed east...
