I would skip the insurance and try a 0% interest payment plan

We have pretty normal insurance and our top end dental plan still requires a 50/50 split up to $3000 for braces. Also, it requires you to stay enrolled in that plan for a minimum of two years. Basically, between the monthly premium and the out of pocket maximum, it is a wash.
