Dropped my daughter off at auburn.
They are doing staged move in dates over the course of a couple weeks. It was great as only about 5 other families in her dorm shared the same move in time. Very laid back compared to my other move in experiences. Mask wearing all around town and campus (in doors). Based on my conversation with her peers they aren’t very worried about the virus.
It was my first stay in a hotel since Covid. Masks all over the hotel except in room. Restaurants all had full tables but only at 50 capacity. Several In the town seem to be closed since the last week time I was there. I talked to a lady at a coffee shop who said “Thank God they (students) are coming back. This town needs them”. Funny to me is how students are willing to wear masks without a ton of complaining given the little health risk they face, but the old people in our church are threatening to hold out giving it they have to wear masks to in person church. Some other observations from Auburn:
It is easier to pick out girls not wearing lululemon workout clothes that it is pointing out the ones who are. As if every girl is dressed and ready to hit the gym.
No word on what the boys are wearing as they show up later (sorority girls first) but I am going to say they will look like a saltwater fishing tourney is about to break out.
Her suite is so much better than my late 80s form (West Egg). She has a full size fridge, kitchen and bathroom (shared with one other). And A\C which I didn’t have. Of course her room charge for the year is about 30% higher than I paid all in my last year at Tech out of state.
If I was an athlete the tour at Auburn would be very impressive. The gym is unbelievable (fully open. Masks I would say are semi optional). The athletics facilities are awesome and the campus is very condensed. The football and basketball arenas are steps away from many dorms. It would be appealing for sure.
Hope I don’t have to move her out until the spring.
