That's what I was told when looking for a mid-range Trek bike 3 weeks ago

Was looking in the $500-$700 range and I was told at least 6 weeks but it could be November depending on the style.
Looked at several bike shops in Blacksburg and Roanoke.
Ended up with a Specialized bike from The Bike Barn in Blacksburg. They had 2 left that were hybrids, only in brown for $450. If I wanted a different color they'd have to order it and they had no idea how long it would be.
