There seem to be lots of programs with less money out-recruiting us now...

Yes, there is a correlation between money and success but it is not absolute. Look at Clemson and TAM for example. We’re never going to have the money that some schools have so we need to allocate resources appropriately. First, cut as many non-revs as possible. Second, hire a coach that actually moves the needle when it comes to recruiting. Third, put money into staff. Facilities can wait. It’s relationships that build recruiting, not putting greens. When recruiting gets better there will be more wins and then more money.

As for Fuente....You asked me the question regarding cutting his salary. I answered. That’s not being myopic. It’s being honest and moves some money. Obviously VT isn’t going to do that but the current situation is not reflective of a thoroughly thought out hiring choice or financial wizardry. So in that regard, Whit has culpability. Fu is who he is.

As for how programs go financially, we were at the same level as Clemson not too long ago. When we are being out-recruited by GT (and SMU, Memphis and Cincy this year)......the problem goes way beyond facilities.
