One of the strangest events I can remember. We had just put our newborn

down for the night. I sat down on the couch to watch tv and heard the wind pick up. I opened the front door and the wind pulled the storm door out of my hand. The neighbor was in the middle of the street yelling and looking around for a tornado, I guess. Strongest wind I've experienced since Hugo. The power goes out right away and I told my wife we better get to the Kroger on Brambleton for ice, this might last a while. With it being 100 degrees it didn't take long for the house to heat up and we couldn't sleep so we decide to drive to Martinsville and spend the weekend at my FIL's. It's around midnight and we get down 220 north of Boones Mill and the traffic stops. People are out of the cars walking around, it felt like we were in The Walking Dead. We tried a few back roads but every road was blocked with trees so we went back home and sweated it out. We were lucky the power was back on by Sunday but my MIL lived in the county and didn't have power for weeks so she also had to stay at our place.

Also, the derecho hit Martinsville about an hour after my mom had finished moving into a new house. A tree fell across the driveway and crushed her car and a limb went through the roof.

It was a wild night.
